Ford Focus Estate (05 on)

As small estates go, the Focus is often overlooked in favour of more stylish models. Which is a real shame as it makes a great car for load lugging thanks to a excellent boot space and a wide, long load area. Of course being a Ford it is also great to drive and loses none of the handling prowess of the Focus hatchback, with the same responsive steering and good body control. With supple suspension it also rides well, even with a full load on board and there’s decent rear passenger space too. A great range of engines is available, our pick being the excellent TDCi units, which offer a blend of punchy performance and impressive fuel economy. The model was facelifted in January 2008 with sharper looks and improved interior quality while a low emissions ECOnetic version was also available for the first time. In 2009 the eco version was improved to lowering emissions and averaging 70mpg. Ford Asia

1993 Toyota Tercel Carburator

Does 1993 Tercel has Carburator ? If it does, how can I clean it. Thanks.
If it’s just in need of a clean out, IE; you don’t want to strip and clean, then it’s a really simple method - both for a carby motor and an efi motor.

Step one - locate the inlet-air pipe.

When you find it, follow it back to the throttle-body.

If it’s a carby, you just found the carby!

If it’s efi, it’s a throttle body in truth - carbys include a throttle and therefore don’t requite a ‘throttle body’.

Step 2 - Remove all that piping.

Be careful not to break stuff!

Step 3 - (and you’ll need a can of carby-cleaner for this!)

Spray the carby-cleaner in the carby/throttle. Using a rag, scrub off as much carbon as you can. You will need to push against the throttle valve to do it.

NB: If the throttle valve does not move easily, DO NOT FORCE IT!

Step 4 - Start the engine.

It will run like a bag of crap until the cleaner is all used up.

Now spray more of the cleaner in the carby/throttle while you hold it on Wide Open Throttle.

Don’t keep it there for very long - a few seconds will be fine.

The cleaner will make the revs drop and may stall the engine.

Do this step a couple of times if you want.

Step 5 - Put all the pipes back on!

Don’t forget to plug in any wiring you may have had to unplug!

Enjoy :D

Correctly jetted and tweaked to match the 383 you are feeding a Q-Jet is an excellent carb to operate. The smaller pirmaries make for slightly improved mileage and the huge secondaries have proven superb under heavy engine operations/high loads. It should be noted that Q-jets can be harder to tune for novices. Talk to some mechsnics and you’ll find an opinion of carb based on brand or any other specification that has been nearly impossible to get operating correctly. The Q-jet is no exception.

If you have it rebuilt and jetted properly by a skilled mechanic the Rochestor Q-jet should give years of reliable and fun driving. If you like to futz around with your carbs a Holley or similar may e your best option.
